I'm a firm believer in you make your own luck. Now this time last year I lived two mins from the office, had a personal trainer, travelled the country with work and got home pretty often to see the folks and my lovely little nephew. Now the strategic imperative this time last year was to have job security and earn more cash. This was not looking likely where I was as I was already placed on the at risk register and funnily enough the old company is going through redundancies again. So I jumped ship to a huge multi-national. Let be honest they have way too much money and pay me way too much. Almost doubling my wage, when you consider all the fringe benefits! But fuck me I earn it for them! Managing projects, teams and doing the customer shmoosing! I think I'm happier but I have moved from engineering techy geek to management. And get miles less time to myself. Which is probably a good thing saves me over analysing. Although I'm now not getting to see my folks or nephew much, working longer hours, not getting to gym much - yes I know the gym is next door to where I live, but I spend way too much time in hotels on the m4 corridor. Now how did I get here. Well I had a goal and at all costs set out to achieve it. The next goals are to get chartership - already underway. And to clear ยฃ80k salary next year - achievable ;) Moral of the story if you want it get off your fucking arse and get it. No ones gonna give it you on a plate. And you will make mistakes, there is always a price.
